History week 20.

Magellan was born on 1480 in Portugal, Sabrosa. He began his maritime career at a young age and served in the Portugal navy. In 1519, Magellan set sail from Spain with a fleet of five ships, aiming to find a western sea route to the Spice Islands by sailing around the American continent. Magellan became the first European to sail the Pacific Ocean. The expedition reached the Philippines in 1521, where Magellan was killed in the Battle of Mactan. Even though Magellan didn’t finish his journey himself his expedition was under control of Juan Elcano. The voyage provided valuable information about the world’s geography and demonstrated the feasibility of global circumnavigation. The journey was focused on exchanges and trades which were: goods, food, gold, and cultural items or religious items. The exchange was in-between Asia, Europe, and America, Magellan’s voyage paved the way for future maritime exploration and trade routes. Magellan’s journey was monumental for history for the rights of European rights for boat school, navy school and government exchanges.
