New England Colonies: Homes were typically made of wood with thatched roofs. They were small and simple, reflecting the values of modesty. Middle Colonies: Homes were a bit more diverse, with some being similar to those in New England and others resembling those in the South. Southern Colonies: Wealthier colonists built large, elegant homes made of brick and wood, often with wide halls and large rooms for entertaining. Much of daily life revolved around farm work. Colonists grew crops like corn, wheat, and oats, and raised animals for food. The diet included a lot of meat, bread, and locally grown vegetables. They also enjoyed foods like pumpkin bread and corn pudding. originally clothing was very simple due to the necessity of life. Over time, as the colonies became more settled, clothing became more elaborate and was often dictated by religious beliefs. The colonies had a social community, but it was more relaxed compared to England. Wealth and status affected one’s lifestyle, including clothing, food, and education. Wealthier colonists often owned slaves, especially in the Southern Colonies. Medical care was limited, and diseases were common. Life expectancy was lower in the Southern Colonies due to diseases like malaria.
