History week 14.

John Wycliffe was a philosopher born in England; he lived a lavish wealthy catholic church life. He was born in 1384 in Yorkshire England, John Wycliffe argued to the catholic church to focus on spiritual and praising the god they believe in instead of wealth. John Wycliffe was a church preacher out of Yorkshire and a protester for different beliefs. He was condemned and praised after his death in 1428, people believed he was a messenger sent by God and he would often give bible or church preaches on weekends. Wycliffe’s followers, known as Lollards, continued to spread his ideas after his death. John usually made ideas or opinions on what people preached in church, he received backlash and hate for speaking out about something that was written in the bible. Many people spread his word like Jan Hus, or Czech his followers and believers and truly believed John was right on his opinions or ideas for bible studies, preaches, or protests. John is often called the “Morning Star of the Reformation” for his protests in the 16th century. His insistence on the authority of scripture and criticism of church practices resonated with later reformers like Martin Luther.
