The Fall of Carthage.

The fall of Carthage occurred in 146 BC after the third Punic war. Carthage was an empire in the Mediterranean area. Carthage was fighting against Rome until 149 BC to 146 BC. They fought for territory of Tunisia. During the battle, India in the southeast of Tunisia had to intervene, stopping Rome from almost destroying Tunisia. When the battle ended in 146 BC, Persia being in the southwest of the battle got attacked by Rome because they had to travel past Persia, and in the midst got attacked resulting in a quick battle, Persia stopped and apologized for attacking Rome. The city of Carthage itself was unusually large for the time. People give population estimates ranging from 90,000 to 800,000. Any of these would make Carthage one of the most populous cities in the Mediterranean area at the time. Rome was determined that the city of Carthage was to be left in ruins. The Senate dispatched a ten-man commission and Scipio was ordered to carry out further demolitions. At the end of the war of Massinissa, an ally of Rome, emerged as by far the most powerful ruler among the Numidians. The indigenous population which controlled much of what is now Algeria and Tunisia.
